Drawing the front view of a garment can be a breeze with the right techniques. I’m here to share a tip for achieving symmetry – a game-changer, especially for us perfectionists!

Mix and match the silhouettes or design details found throughout The Fashion Design Book to create your unique style. I want you to do this process with me. Choose your own parts of the garment and mix them until you’re happy with the result. If you aren’t pleased, try something else until you are. Remember, use the book as inspiration. You can always change up any details you would like to make it yours.

Once the front view is locked in, it’s time to tackle the back. Don’t worry; it’s easier than it sounds. I’ll guide you through the process of translating the front view into a stunning back view. Remember, consistency is key, and I’ve got your back on this one – pun intended!

Studying real garments is a secret weapon. Use garments as references and study the construction details. Take bits and pieces from different styles to add that touch of authenticity to your newly designed styles.

If you want to resize your sketches, use a photocopier to reduce or enlarge them. This is great not only for artboards but also for personal sketchbooks.
